Home sweet home

Alright. The yard is mowed, clothes are washed, house is picked up and it's almost time for the weekend. Good to have all the chores out of the way. I was reading in Proverbs this morning and it really spoke to me. When I look back at my last posts, I am beginning to think that Pr 23 29-30 fits (with the exception of being in the tavern and drinking). If you have never read through the book of Proverbs I highly recommend that you take one chapter per day (31 chapters in the book). It seems like each time you read it, something different speaks to you. I need to get better about doing this while on the road. I think that it makes for a much better trip.

Atlanta - this past week I spent some time in downtown Atlanta at the Marriott Marquis. Beautiful hotel. One thing was obvious though, they are having a difficult time getting people to fill all their positions. Restaurants were understaffed as was the catering area. Is the economy that good? Perhaps Atlanta has its own economy that doesn't necessarily track along with the rest of the state of Georgia. It (Atlanta) certainly has its own flavor.

New computer arrived yesterday. It is one of Dell's latest and greatest laptops. Today I will work to transfer data from my old one onto the new one. Should be an interesting process. Next week will be the real smoke test, when I take this new one with me to Massachusetts.

Finally made it home. Late, but better that than never. Now I can breathe a sigh of relief as I am back in the world of the sane... having just come from the stockyards in concourse C of the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky airport. Now I'm in line to get out of the parking lot and what appears but some guy standing outside his car hollering profanities at anyone who will listen. He is in a really big hurry and I guess he figures the more he cusses and hollers the faster the line will move. Honking his horn frantically seems to really get things moving along. So much for getting back to the land of the sane!

This morning I had to rent a car for another trip tomorrow. What happened to the Enterprise guy with the white shirt and tie? Mine said, "come down here and pick up your car!" When I get the car, I notice there are still some belongings in the back seat from the last people who "tried" to rent the car without a credit card. That didn't work so they went back home. I now get the wonderful car. After getting this "credit to the four wheeled motor world" home the phone rings and it's the guy from Enterprise (still not in a white shirt and tie) wanting me to bring the car back because the trunk is full of these past idiots belongings!

Do I have a black cloud following me or what?

From VA to GA

9/15/2006
Wow.. Time to go back to Georgia. Didn't come across much sanity in VA. Was interesting how there were more police parked in the middle of I-95 up here than there were cars on the highway.
I listened to a local talk radio show host who got so disgusted with the stupidity of his listeners that he left the studio. The listeners called in to his engineer to say they were happy he was gone...then he came back about 30 minutes later to tell the people how stupid they were!!
After arriving at the airport, I'm thinking he might be right. The guy in front of me wanted to check in for his flight and check one bag. Normally no problem, but his flight was leaving in 30 minutes. He could go but his bag couldn't...woa was he.....What was he thinking?? The day's of making the mad dash are through (unless you are trying to make a connection, then they are more in vogue than ever).

Well, Sunday it's off to a convention in Atlanta. Why do I think I won't find much sanity there either. Maybe I need to change the word sanity to SENSE.

What you say? This flight is on time? NO WAY! Can't be....but then again I am headed to Florida from Virginia by way of Ohio. Makes sense, doesn't it????

Trip to Virginia

September 14, 2006. My first post. I just needed to begin to share some of the sites and sounds of the road.
Air Travel - First, with all the new rules and regulations that have been splashed all about the news, one would think that anyone traveling would know what to do and what not to do. NOT.. People continue to try to bring coffee, drinks, etc onto the aircraft. Thank goodness for big trash can's. What I can't figure out is there are still people with large roller bags getting on and storing their bags in overhead compartments. What are they doing with their stuff that can't come aboard? UPS?
Delay's - Imagine that....delay's. Don't plan on arriving on time. It seems regardless of clear skies throughout the nation there are always those darned FAA Traffic Control delay's. Hmmm...scapegoat?
Dining out - I have to share with you my dinner experience this evening. I went to a brand new steakhouse in Fredericksburg, VA. Very good service as they had only been open a week and were really trying to please. Then in comes the family from hell.... Have to assume husband, wife, teenager, and two younger children. The table that the hostess took them too was not acceptable to mama, but it was the only table of its size available and she didn't want to wait for another one. She stood in the middle of the restaurant and threw a fit, much to the embarassment of the teenager. With nowhere else to sit, she begrudgingly accepted the table. The spineless husband stood there with a typical stupid look on his face and took a seat. As the waiter arrived to take their order, one of the little children proceeded to bounce in a booth across the restaurant while mama argued about what it was she wanted to eat that she didn't find on the menu. That was about all I could take... Where do these people come from anyway???
Customer service at an office supply - Last but not least, I went to a chain office supply to have a large amount of copies made. The lady in the copy center told me I didn't want her to make copies for me...no...I wanted to do it myself and she would show me how. She proceeded to set up the copier incorrectly to give me 240 sheets of uncollated/unstapled copies (not what I wanted, I wanted 20 sets of 12 sheets collated and stapled) but she knew better. Whatever you do...don't listen to the customer...
